Iran

Tue Jun 23, 2009, 12:39 AM

So in case you missed out on my last two submissions, I'm kinda' caught up in the Iranian Protests. I have been interested in Iran/Persia for several years now, ever since I started reading Shahnameh [link] . In particular I found the story of Zal and Rudebah as amazing and fascinating. An ancient epic where Diplomacy, not martial skill won the day; where the strong character who saves the day was a strong, intelligent woman, where the two lovers are crossing racial boundries...

Yeah, so I really like Iranian culture. I've been learning more about the country and trying to learn the language. I really suck at learning languages.

So ever since the clumsily rigged election results were announced I've been paying attention. As the protests started as startlingly quiet marches, to when the Basiji started hurting, then killing people. As the protests were repressed and then became more violent. My heart is with the people of Iran. I will do what little I can to support them.

Unfortunatly I am an American, so there's not much I can do. If our leaders speak out we feed into the Iranian Goverment's accusations of this being a externally run coup. There is such a long and painful history between Iran and the US, that any action taken must be taken with this history in mind. Doing what is right isn't doing what feels good.

I hope that this time around we can make up for the horrible mistake that was supporting the Sha of Iran in 1979.

So what I can do: Show my support through my work.

Encourage others to do the same: [link]

Try to help get information and images out from Iran, so that the world can see what is happening:

Rose Festival, SCRAP

Thu May 21, 2009, 11:19 PM

Hey all. I have to say, getting photos of my work with no place to set up my camera is proving... difficult. This Monday, however, I'm participating in a group sale that holds some neat new pieces. They may not be portfolio worthy shots, but I will get some shots of the new work! Also, maybe some of me demonstrating my techniques. Part of what we are doing is demoing all day. From 11 AM to 11 PM. I'm working the last shift, from 7 PM to 11 PM, and I've got to say that I'm really glad that I'm not doing the 12 hr day all alone.

In other news I've been getting more involved in the community. I don't know how many of you (at least one!) are near to Portland, but I've found an amazing resource. It's called "SCRAP." [link] They basically take people's scrap donations and make them available to the public for reuse. This includes teachers (who can use all the help they can get for getting items for their students) and artists. Cloth scraps, wall-paper samples, cloth samples, tile samples, National Geographic, old cards, the occasional lost and forgotten love letter. It's pretty awesome. I got some lovely glass jars.

I've been volunteering there for the past month and its' been pretty good. I've been working on organizing their cards and calendars for the past month. It's been a little mind numbing and my distaste for greeting cards has grown some, but it's been neat to see all the people who come in and get something for $0.10 that they'd pay $4.00 for other wise. Good on the wallet and the environment. :)

Blink

Thu Apr 2, 2009, 12:32 AM

Days go by so fast, I can't keep up with everything I want to and need to do. So much to create, so much work to be done, but so little time to do it in.

I've taken up Spanish again... Tengo diece anos en escuela, pero no comprende la gramatica nada. Mostly, I learned how to complain about my linguistic skills in Spanish while I was in school. Now I'm going to try and actually learn to speak it. I need a job and frankly, America is becoming bilingual. Therefore, bilingual is the way to go for getting a good job. Or, in this economy, a job at all. :p bleh.

Anyhow, not much here, but I thought I'd say hi to all you great people out there in DA land. Keep creating ya'll!

Speaking of which, just found this to love!

Devious Journal Entry

Tue Mar 24, 2009, 11:18 AM

So I just got a note from :iconellerz: Aparently, she decided to give a go at my spongy texture. It turned out great, I think.

The amazing thing is that apparently she got her pottery class (of kids) to do it as well. o_O That sort of texture takes time, and it's a bit tedious. So, man, Ellerz, my hat's off to you!

I wander off for a day and...

Fri Mar 20, 2009, 11:34 AM

Yesterday, my poor puppy [link] had to have the dreaded surgery. Cute guy, but we don't want to be dog breeders, if you know what I mean. So my day was pretty much spent worrying about the poor little guy, and taking care of him when he came home. He was very mopey until we took the victorian collar off, and then he was very very hungry. Of course, valuing the apartments carpets, we couldn't feed him too much, but he ate what we could give him with relish.

So I didn't get on the computer at all yesterday. Therefore, I was very surprised when I got on this morning.

"Geeze" I thought, looking at the messages, "Some people have been blogging like mad."

Seriously, over half my message count is usually journal entries. It didn't take me long to realize that wasn't the case this time.

Thanks so much :iconhivemind-inc: and :iconkitten-of-woe: !!

Here's a personal feature of thanks for hivemind-inc:
